Abstract

Di dalam era modern kini yang semakin maju oleh kecanggihan teknologi, standar kecantikan yang tidak realistis semakin dipopulerkan melalui media sosial. Standar kecantikan yang tidak lepas dari pengaruh objektifikasi menciptakan gambaran bahwa tubuh kurus adalah tubuh yang ideal bagi perempuan, sehingga menjadi salah satu faktor yang turut mengembangkan ketidakpuasan tubuh pada perempuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji hubungan antara body surveillance dan body dissatisfaction melalui body shame sebagai mediator. Studi hubungan antara body surveillance dan ketidakpuasan tubuh masih sangat terbatas di Indonesia, terlebih lagi yang melibatkan body shame di dalamnya, padahal body shame adalah indikator yang kuat untuk gangguan makan. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui penyebaran kuesioner secara online dengan teknik accidental sampling dari sejumlah 223 perempuan dengan rentang usia 18-25 tahun di Surabaya sebagai partisipan penelitian. Analisis data menggunakan metode analisis mediasi melalui Structural Equations Modeling (SEM) dengan aplikasi JASP versi 0.16. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada hubungan antara body surveillance dan body dissatisfaction yang dimediasi sepenuhnya oleh body shame, dengan indirect effect antara body surveillance dan body dissatisfaction melalui body shame, dengan total effect yang signifikan dan tanpa adanya direct effect. Temuan ini berimplikasi pada pentingnya pengembangan intervensi yang mempertimbangkan konteks sosial setempat sebagai sumber dari permasalahan body image.
