Publication Ethics
Publication Ethics
Jurnal Ilmiah Ekonomi Bisnis only accepts original research articles and theoretical studies that have not been published elsewhere and are not currently under review in other journals. The journal is committed to upholding ethical standards at all stages of the publication process. These ethical standards are adapted from the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Turnitin software may be used by the editorial office to check for similarities between submitted manuscripts and existing literature.
Ethics for Editors
- Editors are responsible for maintaining the academic quality of articles received and published.
- Editors guide reviewers and authors throughout the editorial process.
- Editors ensure the confidentiality of peer reviewers and submitted manuscripts.
- Editors adhere to principles of fairness and non-discrimination in evaluating submissions.
- Editors prepare and enforce guidelines for all members of the editorial board.
- Editors avoid conflicts of interest involving all stakeholders during the publishing process.
Ethics for Authors
- Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts are free from plagiarism and copyright infringement.
- Authors must confirm that the manuscript is not under consideration or accepted for publication in another journal.
- The listed authors must accurately reflect those who contributed significantly to the research and writing of the article.
- All authors must approve the submission and grant authority to the corresponding author to sign the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) form.
- If a significant error is identified after publication, authors must promptly notify the editor for correction or retraction.
Ethics for Reviewers
- Reviewers must act objectively, independently, and professionally.
- Reviewers provide constructive feedback to improve the quality of the manuscript.
- Reviewers must notify the editor immediately if plagiarism or ethical misconduct is suspected.
- Reviewers must maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest.
- Reviewers evaluate manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s guidelines.
Plagiarism
Authors must submit only original work that is not plagiarized and has not been published or submitted elsewhere. Turnitin software may be used to detect similarities with existing publications. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable. Proper citation and quotation must be provided for all referenced works.
Reporting Standards
Authors should present their research results clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation. Research methods must be described clearly to allow replication and verification by other researchers.
Conflicts of Interest
A conflict of interest statement must be included in the manuscript if authors receive financial or other support that could influence the results or interpretation of the study. All sources of funding must be disclosed.
Authorship and Collaboration
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the research and manuscript preparation. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors approve the final version of the manuscript before submission.
Multiple or Redundant Publication
Authors should not publish the same research findings in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is strictly prohibited.
Additional Ethical Guidelines
Ethical Guidelines For Questionnaire-Based Social and Behavioral Research
1. PURPOSE AND SCOPE
These guidelines provide ethical guidance for social, behavioral, business, and management research that collects primary data through questionnaires and involves human participants, particularly studies classified as minimal-risk research.
2. DEFINITION OF MINIMAL-RISK QUESTIONNAIRE RESEARCH
A questionnaire-based study is considered minimal risk when:
- Participation involves no medical, psychological, or physical intervention
- Data collected relate to perceptions, attitudes, behaviors, or experiences
- No personally identifiable or sensitive information is collected
- Participation does not expose respondents to legal, social, or psychological harm
Such studies typically do not require formal ethics committee or IRB approval, provided ethical principles are followed.
3. CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH ETHICS COMMITTEE APPROVAL IS NOT REQUIRED
3.1 Nature of Participation
- Participation is voluntary
- No deception or coercion is involved
- Respondents may withdraw at any time without consequences
3.2 Data Characteristics
- Data are collected anonymously
- No direct or indirect identifiers are included
- Data are analysed and reported in aggregate form only
3.3 Research Risk Level
- The study poses no more than minimal risk
- Questions do not involve sensitive topics (e.g., health, trauma, illegal activities)
3.4 Data Collection Method
- Self-administered questionnaires (online or paper-based)
- No observation without consent
- No experimental manipulation
4. INFORMED CONSENT REQUIREMENTS
4.1 Acceptable Forms of Consent
- Verbal consent
- Implied consent, where completion of the questionnaire indicates agreement to participate
4.2 Minimum Information to Be Provided
- The purpose of the research
- Voluntary nature of participation
- Anonymity and confidentiality of responses
- Right to withdraw at any time
4.3 Rationale for Non-Written Consent
- The study is anonymous
- Written consent could compromise anonymity
- The research poses minimal risk
5. DATA PROTECTION AND CONFIDENTIALITY
Researchers must ensure that:
- No personally identifiable data are collected
- Data are stored securely
- Access is limited to the research team
- Shared datasets are anonymized and aggregated
6. TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY
Researchers are expected to:
- Clearly describe ethical considerations in the methods section
- State the form of informed consent used
- Justify the absence of ethics committee approval where applicable
- Provide a data availability statement when required
7. WHEN ETHICS COMMITTEE APPROVAL IS REQUIRED
Formal ethics approval must be obtained if the study:
- Involves vulnerable populations
- Collects sensitive personal data
- Uses deception or experimental manipulation
- Involves psychological or behavioral intervention
- May expose participants to risk or harm
These guidelines apply to non-interventional, minimal-risk questionnaire-based research in social and behavioral sciences. These ethical guidelines are provided as academic guidance and do not constitute institutional ethical approval.
